Run by an uncle-and-nephew team with mead-making in the family since the early nineties, it has long been known as the only meadery in the area, and it leans all the way into the tavern-hall spirit its name promises. The draw is a rotating list of nearly twenty meads on tap, made from South Carolina honey, flavored with real fruit and spice, and naturally gluten free. You drink by the flight, and if mead is new to you the staff will steer you toward where your taste lands, from bone-dry and hoppy to bright and fruit-forward. Licensed as a winery, they pour mead, cider, and cyser blends, with charcuterie boards, paninis, and salads coming out of the kitchen. The room matters as much as the pour. There is a stage for local music, Dungeons & Dragons trivia, a book club, game nights, and a wall of competition medals the owners have racked up over the years. Regulars give the crew real credit for how easily they turn a "mead is too sweet for me" skeptic into someone with a favorite.
